You will not stumble upon this Maker. Tucked between what look like auto workshops on North Street, Richmond, it rewards only those who already know — the locals, the regulars, the ones who've made it a quiet morning tradition. And it is, without qualification, the best Maker I've been to in Melbourne. The space earns that claim on its own: raw white brick, industrial ceiling, reclaimed timber at the counter, and on the far wall, a large moose painting in a suit that somehow sets the tone perfectly — deadpan, considered, a little unexpected. The roasting facility sits directly behind the café, which I'm convinced is the reason the coffee tastes the way it does: impossibly fresh, every shot dialled in with care. Order a flat white. The barista will bring it with a small printed card describing the beans — origin, process, tasting notes. It's a small gesture, but it matters. I have particular fondness for this place. My son's primary school is nearby, and for years, dropping him off was followed by a walk here — a few quiet minutes, a good coffee, the smell of fresh roast drifting from the back. Those mornings meant something. One practical note: park at Vic Gardens Shopping Centre and walk over. And don't arrive late — they close at 2pm.
